Autumn in Oostende there is so much to do, read this...
There it goes, our summer. But we don't grieve, because autumn is already here. Ostend at its best! The Leopold Park shows its wide variety of colours, the sea lets go of all its drama and it is never too cold for ice cream on the dike, right? No stress, even though the high season is over, Ostend continues to buzz through the autumn. Which we immediately notice:
During autumn, the North Sea shows its true face. A spirited lady full of character. There is no better season to get a good breath of fresh air. The wind on your face, the oxygen, rough waves looking for the beach, that typical sound, the smell. Miles of walking, surfing for the daredevils and afterwards eating coffee and pancakes in the tearooms on the dike. We don't say no.
But also the cultural doesn't stop. The quite impressive works of street-art tour The Crystal Ship can withstand any type of weather. Do you prefer to admire art indoors? Then you have to stop at Mu.ZEE. Animation artist Raoul Servais currently has a separate wing and fans of Ensor can indulge themselves here.
By the way, Fort Napoleon is completely renewed inside. In the brand new expo, the walls will whisper the stories of the fort to you. Technological tour de force. Afterwards go shopping (or before) and brunch in the equally new concept store Cabin. Could it be more active, louder and more flashy? The Oktoberfoor has landed in Ostend. Let yourself be swayed dry in the attractions and then eat as many doughnuts as you can. Best in that order too.
Ostend thinks of the youngest. No boring autumn holidays or weekends full of panic attacks because the agenda is empty. During "Once upon a time..." the Leopold Park is transformed into a fairytale world full of fairies, trolls, princes and princesses for four days. Amazement is central to the theatre performances, street acts and workshops. Do they still have energy left? Then let them loose in the Hangtime trampoline park.
Pssst, did you already know that Sinterklaas will arrive in Ostend on 7 November?
That typical autumn weather calls for a cozy restaurant tip. Belle de Jour is one of them. Patron Els guarantees a lively chat and an incredible amount of expertise. No ordinary kitchen, but classics with a twist. The menu changes every day and is completely seasonal. Extra bonus: the restaurant is located in a beautifully renovated 19th century mansion.
